The smell of fresh cut grass. The squeak of running shoes on a gym floor. The swish of the ball as it grabs nothing but net. These are the sounds of athletics at Strathcona High School, usually followed by the voices of hundreds of screaming fans, united with joy.
At Strathcona we’re proud of our history, but we’re even more focused on the present. We field competitive sports teams and clubs in:
- Basketball
- Football
- Volleyball
- Cross Country
- Track and Field
- Golf
- Rugby
- Soccer (Indoor and Outdoor)
- Badminton
- Swimming
The only thing that creates a stronger bond between students than losing together is winning together, and at Strathcona we can claim bragging rights for more than just the gold medals the math team brings home. Our Strathcona Lords have been on a roll lately, including:
- 37 consecutive years as city champions and five years as provincial champions in track and field.
- 33 consecutive years as city champions and twelve years as provincial champions in cross-country.
- 23 consecutive years as city champions in swimming.
- Six years as city champions and two years as provincial champions in Tier 1 football over the past decade.
- Numerous city and provincial championships in other interschool sports.
But it isn’t simply about winning; at Strathcona we encourage every student to get involved with a sports team, intramural games or a recreational club like ping pong, skiing, snowboarding, even scrabble.
