At Strathcona High School, we have been in the fast lane of swimming for a long time, having won 23 consecutive city championships. The more than 150 members of our swim team understand what it takes to continue the winning traditions - strong fundamentals, good coaching, a strong training program and practice, practice, practice. We are proud at Strathcona that our swim team welcomes all students regardless of swimming ability. We firmly believe that every swimmer can improve, and that every individual brings qualities that make our team stronger. Being on the Scona swim team is great for fitness and we have a lot of fun.
We have been granted a reprieve with our beloved Scona pool, which will again be our practice home. The Scona Pool was closed during the spring of 2009 but has been reopened for the remainder of 2009. We thank parents and community members who helped us to fight for the pool. We would like to invite all of you to visit the pool's home page at www.sconapool.com. We hope members of the public will use the pool for public swims, because if the pool is well-used, we have a chance to keep it open beyond its slated closure at the end of this year.
The Scona swim team has a flexible practice schedule of ten practice times per week before and after school. We encourage swimmers to attend practices as often as possible, and with so many practice times available, students should be able to fit swimming in with their other activities.
We want all students to feel welcome to join the Scona swim team whether they are masters of the butterfly or have never been involved in competitive swimming. Once they pull on the school swim cap and dive into the water, we know they will feel the pride that comes with being a part of the famous Scona swim team.
